Big Changes…
September 30, 2009

Before expounding upon our forecast… I wanted to pass along a bit of local weather trivia.  On this date in 1961… Omaha had its first September snowfall in 70 years.  It was very little accumulation… but a reminder for us of what we’ll be seeing a few weeks down the road.
So… no snow in our [...]

Turning Cooler…
September 28, 2009

After a pleasant weekend (outside of the gusty winds Sunday afternoon)… with sunshine and highs in the 70s and lower 80s… look for a big change to start this work-week.  Those same northwest winds (which gusted to over 40 mph late Sunday) are ushering in much cooler weather… with highs expected to be only in [...]

It’s Official… It’s Fall!!
September 23, 2009

Fall officially began yesterday at 4:19pm with the Autumnal Equinox and… right on cue… Mother Nature brought us some cooler weather… with highs only in the 60s.  Clear skies (and light winds) Tuesday night have set the stage for a foggy start to Wednesday.
The next couple of afternoons look fairly nice… with a mix of sun [...]

Wet End To Summer
September 21, 2009

Fall officially begins on Tuesday at 4:19pm local time and… after a mild to warm final weekend of Summer… look for much cooler weather for the next couple of days.  A cold front that will move across the area by mid-day Monday will support showers and even a few thunderstorms into the afternoon.  The clouds [...]

Winding Down Summer…
September 16, 2009

We’re in our last stretch of Summer… with the Autumnal equinox arriving next Tuesday at 4:19pm local time… and temperatures will be at (or above) average until then.  Also consistent through the upcoming weekend will be our dry weather… which should help to keep our weed pollen count levels in the high category.
We can expect [...]

Summer Set To Close…
September 14, 2009

Folks can expect some pretty nice weather for the final full week of Summer… as Fall “officially” begins next Tuesday at 4:19pm local time.  Outside of some mid to high-level clouds… courtesy of an area of low pressure to our south in the southern Plains… our weather looks nearly perfect (i.e, Top Ten Day conditions) [...]

Weekend Outlook
September 10, 2009

Our warm and humid (albeit typical) late Summer weather will continue into Friday… with partly cloudy skies and highs in the lower 80s.  The changes will arrive as a front approaches our area Friday evening… bringing showers and thunderstorms into early Saturday morning.
Behind the front… clouds will linger through Saturday with spotty showers possible during [...]

Late Summer Weather
September 9, 2009

Outside of a few spotty showers this Wednesday… look for typical late Summer weather (i.e, warm and humid) to continue through Thursday.  A better chance of rain will arrive on Friday and usher in cooler (but not cold) weather for the upcoming weekend.
Folks heading down to Lincoln for the next Huskers game (against Arkansas State) [...]

The Unofficial End of Summer…
September 4, 2009

Before discussing the weather for Labor Day weekend (aka the “unofficial” end of summer)… let’s look back at the rainfall from Thursday.  Most folks around the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro picked up around an inch of rain… but a few locations (primarily north and northwest of Omaha) saw 1.5″ to nearly 3″ of precipitation.  Here are [...]

Staying Cool…
September 2, 2009

Now that we’ve finished meteorological summer (June-July-August)… we can crunch the numbers and confirm that 2009 was the 10th coldest summer on record in Omaha.  Elsewhere in eastern Nebraska… Lincoln and Norfolk recorded their 15th and 5th coldest summers on record, respectively.  While we’ve picked up quite a bit of rain over the past couple [...]
