Closing Out July 2009…
July 28, 2009

As we approach the end of July (and beginning of August)… I feel a need to paraphrase the classic rock band The Who… meet the new month… same as the old month!  In other words… our unseasonably mild weather will continue through the upcoming weekend.
The average highs in late July/early August are in the upper 80s… [...]

Back to (this) July Weather…
July 27, 2009

We finally hit the 90s on Friday (Eppley Airfield reported a high of 94)… marking the second latest date on record for Omaha to reach 90 or above in the month of July.  So far… 2009 is on track to be the 6th coolest July on record for Omaha… with an average temperature of 72.2 through [...]

Summer Returns… Temporarily…
July 23, 2009

After spending the entire month of July with daytime temperatures at or below average… the area will spend the next 2 afternoons with highs in the upper 80s to lower 90s.  In fact… Friday’s forecasted high of 94 will mark our first foray into the 90s this month.  That would be the second latest date [...]

Mild Weather Continues…
July 21, 2009

Clouds and periods of rain on Monday kept temperatures in the 70s… with Omaha’s Eppley Airfield reporting a high of only 71… tying for the lowest high temp on record for July 20th.  While we’ll see a bit more sunshine on Tuesday… look for another day of below average highs… generally in the upper 70s.  [...]

Mild July Weather…
July 20, 2009

After a weekend with temperatures below average for mid-July… look for slightly warmer weather to start this work-week.  We saw record lows in Omaha on Friday and Saturday morning… starting each day at 53 and breaking records that dated to the 19th Century.  Much of the central and eastern United States also had unseasonably cool [...]

Is This July ??
July 16, 2009

A cool front dropping across the area Thursday will bring a chance of showers and (a few) thunderstorms from late morning into early afternoon.  Perhaps more significantly… however… it will also usher in unseasonably cooler (and less humid) weather that will last through the upcoming weekend.
Our “average” highs in mid-July are in the upper 80s [...]

Stormy Tuesday ??
July 14, 2009

We’ll see a couple of rain chances this Tuesday.  The first round consists of the remnants of severe storms that impacted western South Dakota and north-central Nebraska Monday evening.  Fortunately for us… the storms weakened considerably and those thundershowers should move out of our area by late morning.
Around mid-day… we’ll see sunshine break out between [...]

Stormy Start To The Week…
July 13, 2009

With periods of clouds… along with a few thunderstorms… our temperatures this past weekend were below average for early to mid July.  Saturday and Sunday saw highs only in the lower to middle 80s (our “normal” high temperature is 87).  While those storms did produce heavy rain in parts of western Iowa… especially near Denison [...]

Weekend Outlook
July 10, 2009

While our weather this weekend won’t be perfect… and certainly will be much warmer than last Saturday’s high of just 70 (our 2nd coolest Independence Day on record in Omaha)… it won’t be too bad either.  Outside of scattered thunderstorms on Friday afternoon… we’ll stay mostly dry with skies that will vary from partly to [...]

Stormy Morning
July 8, 2009

Late night storms that dropped out of South Dakota produced severe weather for parts of the metro very early Wednesday morning.  Omaha’s Eppley Airfield reported a 63 mph wind gust around 1am… which contributed to multiple power outages.
On the plus side… the storms also dropped some much needed rainfall on the area.  Here are some [...]
