Omaha saw it’s warmest day in more than a month on Saturday… when Eppley Airfield reported a high of 55 mid-afternoon. The last time we were warmer was on December 26th… when we hit 56. “Official” Top Ten Day standards require a high in the 70s (among other factors)… so Saturday doesn’t “officially” qualify… but [...]

Can We Do It?!?
January 30, 2009
Can we hit 50 degrees on Saturday. I’m a bull when it comes to tomorrow’s forecast and a bear when it comes to the economy (but that’s a different blog). We’ve got a lot of sunshine, much of the snow melted yesterday and more will melt today, we’ve got a good southwest to west wind, [...]
Out with the cold… in the with the new…
January 28, 2009
The cold is getting kind of old. We’ve seen highs in the teens four days in a row and lows in the single digits six days in a row. We’ve also have received at least a trace of snowfall five days in a row. That all ends in the next 24 hours though.
The string of [...]
1-2-3 Punch
January 25, 2009
We’ve got a couple more shots of snow as we move toward Tuesday morning. Sunday morning we ended up with about 1″ to 3″ inches of snow. At Eppley, we had 1.7″ and in Lincoln just 0.9″. Most of the Omaha Metro area saw about 2.2″ inches or so. Fremont was the winner in [...]
Snow Snow Snow Snow
January 24, 2009
Well, we’re keeping a very close eye on snow forecasts over the next couple of days. It’s a very long duration event, which will come in two different patches. Both events will be capable of dropping 1 to 3 inches, which would give us a total snow possibility of 2 to 6 inches by Monday [...]
A (Brief) January Thaw
January 22, 2009
Wednesday was the warmest day in Omaha in nearly a month… with Eppley Airfield reporting a high of 47. Thursday looks even milder… with temps climbing to around 50… not terribly far from the record high of 58 set back in 2002. Enjoy the comfortable conditions… as our weather will change significantly (and not for [...]
Looking forward to it…
January 18, 2009
Consider our Sunday to be a little preview… a preview of Spring and, more importantly, a preview of what is to come later this week. Temperatures soared into the lower 40s here in Omaha today, while Lincoln and Beatrice even touched 50 (lucky!). It won’t be quite as nice on Monday, but I don’t think [...]
It’s a brrrr thing…
January 15, 2009
Well, it was cold out there. Temperatures this morning tanked to -16 here in Omaha and our highs only got to 2 degrees above zero. That’s not much fun. Here are a few other highs and lows across the area:
Norfolk: -14 & 3
Columbus: -9 & 9
York: -9 & 10
Beatrice: -9 & 12
Lincoln: -9 & 12
Fremont: [...]
Cold… And Getting Colder…
January 14, 2009
Wednesday will end up being one of those days where midnight to 2am feels more comfortable than the remainder of the day. In fact… temperatures were in the upper 30s just after midnight… then started to plummet after 3am as a strong Arctic front slid across the area. By 7am… Omaha was barely above zero [...]
Get Ready For (Another) Big Chill
January 13, 2009
First off… I want to re-cap some of the amazing winter weather we saw on Monday… notably the snowfall and strong winds. Most of Douglas and Sarpy counties (and surrounding areas) picked up between one and two inches of snow combining the morning and afternoon “events”. Here are some local numbers…
Omaha (Eppley Airfield): 1.8″
Valley (National [...]
