Watching the weather… it’s my job…
December 27, 2008

Greetings All,
Hope everyone had a great Christmas.  It has been a couple of interesting days here in Omaha for the weather.  However, it’s not quite as interesting as other spots in the country.  First of all, we reached 56 degrees for a high on Friday.  56!  Lincoln reached 61 degrees, which is just 3 degrees [...]

Christmas Wishes For Warmer Weather ??
December 24, 2008

After climbing into the 30s on Tuesday… our latest blast of Arctic weather dropped us back into the teens for highs on Christmas Eve.  Fortunately… this latest taste of bitter cold weather won’t last long.
A steady southeasterly breeze overnight will slowly raise temps into the lower teens by daybreak on Christmas morning.  In fact… even [...]

Watching Snow…
December 22, 2008

We saw some snow fly Monday evening.  It didn’t snow long, but it did snow quickly.  We got between .25″ and .50″ here in Omaha from what I’ve seen.  (I have yet to see an official amount.)  Some spots in Iowa, like Atlantic, got about 2″.
There are more snow chances in the seven day forecast.  [...]

Coldest Morning Yet…
December 22, 2008

Many (if not most) locations around the KETV Channel 7 viewing area saw their coldest weather yet of the season early Monday morning.  In fact… Omaha (at -9) hasn’t been this cold since January 16th, 2007 (nearly 2 years ago) when we dropped all the way down to -11.  Fortunately… it wasn’t windy… so we [...]

Just how cold?
December 20, 2008

That’s the question… just how cold will it get these next couple of morning and just how cold will it feel.  I’m pretty confident in how cold it will feel tonight though…
Temperatures have already plummeted by about 20 degrees in the past 24 hours.  Looks like this trend will continue, as far as the dropping [...]

Sleet/Snow Storm Wrap-up
December 19, 2008

Our latest in a series of winter storms has now moved east of the area… leaving behind around 2″-3″ of sleet/snow accumulation and icy/snow covered streets in the metro.  The “official” numbers are 2.2″ of sleet/snow at Omaha’s Eppley Airfield and 2.1″ at the National Weather Service’s office in Valley (western Douglas County).  The extended [...]

Winter Storm Update
December 18, 2008

A quick update about our Thursday evening/night winter storm.  An Ice Storm Warning remains in effect through the night across southern Iowa, extreme southeastern Nebraska, and northern Missouri.  These locations are still at risk of picking up between half an inch and an inch of ice overnight.  Due to the sleet and freezing rain in [...]

Thursday Ice Storm
December 18, 2008

In what seems to be a never-ending stream of winter storms… we’re waiting for the latest to arrive in our area by late Thursday afternoon.  Right now… most of the KETV Channel 7 viewing area (including Omaha, Council Bluffs, and Lincoln) are under a Winter Weather Advisory from 3pm Thursday to 3am Friday.  An Ice [...]

Tuesday Snow Winding Down
December 16, 2008

As of 11am… I measured 1.6″ of snow in downtown Omaha.  While the snow won’t completely end until mid-afternoon… the bulk of the accumulation is over.  I believe that the totals for the metro will end up in the 2.5″ to 3.5″ range.
After a break from the wintry precipitation on Wednesday… get ready for what [...]

It’s (Very) Cold… Now For Some Snow
December 15, 2008

We saw our coldest weather yet of the season on Monday morning… with Omaha’s Eppley Airfield reporting a low of -5.  The last time it was colder than that was on February 20th… when we got down to -8.
It now looks like we’ll be adding snow to our weather experiences this week… as a quick [...]
