Quiet… for now…
June 29, 2008

After an amazing stretch of severe weather, we’ve seen quiet conditions around the area yesterday…today… and tomorrow.  That will change for the mid part of the week.
Until then, enjoy this nice weather.  Highs settling around 80 today and tomorrow.  A lot of sunshine should be greeting us over the next couple of days.  Today is [...]

Friday Wind Storm Summary
June 28, 2008

Our active severe weather season took another turn on Friday… with many parts of the metro (and surrounding areas) seeing extensive wind and (in some cases) hail damage.  Here’s a quick recap of the storm.
At 3:55pm… the National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for several counties… including Douglas County and the city of [...]

Lots of Rain… What’s new?
June 27, 2008

We’ve had 8.92″ of rain for the month of June.   That’s a lot.  To compare… it’s a few inches above normal… and last year through this day we had 0.24″.  How is that for a difference.  With that said though, our overall rain for the year is pretty close to where we were last year.
We [...]

Another Stormy Night?
June 26, 2008

After our latest round of thunderstorms… which produced .48″ of rainfall at Omaha’s Eppley Airfield late Thursday morning… we have now totaled 13.80″ of rain since May 22nd… when our wet pattern began.  For the entire year… we’ve received 21.69″ of precipitation… which is 7.18″ above average.
If you’re curious about records… we’re still haven’t seen [...]

Definitely Summer Now…
June 25, 2008

After a cloudy… wet… and cool Tuesday… it’s a completely different ballgame (pun intended due to the College World Series) with our weather on Wednesday.  We’re see our first (albeit brief) heat wave of the young summer… with highs near 90 and heat index values pushing 100 for parts of the viewing area over the [...]

Enough With the Rain…
June 22, 2008

Seriously… we’ve seen at least a trace of rain 14 of 21 days in June.  After today though, it will more than likely be 14 of 22 days (so that’s good news I guess).  We’ve had 7.37″ of rain for the month, that’s 4.59″ above normal (which is 2.78″).  Last time at this year, we [...]

Another Active (Early) Evening
June 20, 2008

Just like late Thursday… we saw another round of strong to severe storms roll across our area.  While we didn’t see quite as much storm coverage on Friday afternoon/evening… many locations did experience moderate sized hail and… in the case of southeastern Pottawattamie County in Iowa… there was one report of a brief tornado touchdown.
The [...]

Ready for Summer?
June 19, 2008

Well… ready or not… Summer will officially begin at 6:59pm Friday evening. While our temperatures are still a little cool (by Summer standards)… it is starting to get a bit more humid. Look for dew point temperatures (a measure of moisture in the atmosphere) to generally be in the 60s for the next couple of [...]

More Bad Weather?
June 15, 2008

We’re watching the possibility for severe weather late this morning and early this afternoon.  It looks like the greatest threat is hail and strong winds.  While an isolated tornado or two is possible somewhere in the Midwest, it doesn’t appear that threat it too great here.
A front is sliding through the area this morning and [...]

A Decent Weekend
June 14, 2008

I’m not sure how long it’s been since we’ve had a completely nice weekend.  I do know last weekend was not one of them.. considering the damage in Millard.  However, our Saturday will be a bit warmer than yesterday and a bit stickier.  Nothing too extreme though.
We had northerly winds pushing in here with some [...]
