Mother Nature is trying to break a record today… and it just might do it. Our average high this time of year is 68 degrees… It looks like we’ll touch 89. The record set back in 1987 is 90… so it’s definitely getting a little close for comfort. There are some indications [...]

A Beautiful Day and More on the Way
April 28, 2007
The 7day forecast is chock full with nice days… and it really begins with today. We’ve got temperatures in the 70s and 80s and light winds and lots of sunshine. That usually means a top ten day. However, I think we’ll see a high of 80 degrees on Saturday, which will be [...]
"Here Comes The Sun…"
April 26, 2007
(Meteorologist Roger Schwartz writes:)
What a bummer. That Beatles song is stuck in my head, but anyway…Warmer, Sunnier times are ahead, especially this weekend, so say goodbye to the cool and gloom. Tomorrow we are forecasting 70 and Partly Sunny, Saturday 74, and Sunday 81! The weekend is looking absolutely terrific!
By Monday (here’s the best [...]
RAIN, and LOTS OF IT
April 25, 2007
(Meteorologist Roger Schwartz writes:) Boy it has rained a lot! “April showers bring May flowers,” but let’s hope the flowers don’t drown. The following records were set as of 2 AM this morning C/O NWS Valley:
-THE ALL TIME 24 HOUR RAINFALL RECORD WAS BROKEN FOR APRIL AT [...]
An Interesting Day
April 22, 2007
It’s definitely been an interesting day across the viewing area. We’ve had a report of 58mph winds in Atlantic, IA.. but not much more than that.
Strong thunderstorms rolled through the area earlier this morning, which ate up some of the energy. Then we actually saw blue sky, but I think thunderstorms developed [...]
Windy and Severe
April 21, 2007
Today was both beautiful and uncomfortable. Temperatures made it up into the 80 degree territory, but winds were blowing very hard. Here in Omaha, winds have been sustained around 30mph and we’ve had gusts close to 40mph. That’s windy.
As the sun sets tonight, the gusty winds should dissipate. However, it [...]
Severe Weather This Weekend?
April 20, 2007
(meteorologist Roger Schwartz writes:)
Right now, it appears like Sunday afternoon will be an active time here in eastern Nebraska/western Iowa. Tomorrow (SATURDAY) will be an active severe weather day for Western and Central Nebraska (with a large outbreak of storms likely), but as I was mentioning in yesterday’s post, most or all of [...]
A Tranquil Time…Does it have to end?
April 19, 2007
(meteorologist Roger Schwartz writes:)
The weather has turned gorgeous and almost as good as it gets.
Unfortunately, being severe weather season, as one would expect, it cannot last forever. It looks like this weekend may pose a risk for severe thunderstorms. At this point it looks like late Saturday afternoon into Sunday will be the timeframe where [...]
Winter 06-07: May It Rest in Peace
April 14, 2007
After much debate and struggle, I’m going to officially put Winter 2006-2007 to sleep. It’s over. Done. Kaput. Finished. Spent. Washed Up. Conquered.
Could we still see a little frost or a morning or two below freezing… Yes. Will we see an extended period where lows get into the teens [...]
HAPPY NEWS: Dodged the bullet
April 13, 2007
(meteorologist Roger Schwartz writes:)
HAPPY NEWS: the storm is taking an even further south track than previously thought AND temperatures are going to be very marginal for snow even down in our southern-most counties along the Kansas border.
So here’s the bottom line: There is an outside chance that a bit of light snow or a rain/snow [...]
