Owen says:
Days like this — you know, the hot ones — are when we reporters like to cover those indoor stories. I take it back. Some of us like to be baked or drenched or blown around by inclement weather. (and “inclement” can be used in ways other than stormy, I just looked it up [...]

Owen says:
You’re going to miss John. And if not because he’s a great meteorologist, it’s because I am not.
In fact, the only weather I ever did was when I won a raffle in high school to appear on one weather segment of the KTLA Morning News in Los Angeles (one of the anchor’s daughters attended [...]
Bon Voyage!
July 25, 2006
This will be my final post for a couple weeks. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get someone to post some wedding pictures. Then when I get back I’ll try and get some pics of Jamaica on here.
Speaking of Jamaica… I’m kind of hoping for a hurricane. Not a bad one, just a nice Category One. [...]
West Dodge Expressway
July 24, 2006
The westbound lanes of the new expressway are opening up on Thursday. It’s amazing how quickly the entire project has been done. When I moved to LaCrosse, the project hadn’t even started. I lived in LaCrosse for about a year and a half and came back to Omaha quite a bit. However, I rarely made [...]
The Heat and Humidity Returns
July 23, 2006
After a brief break from the nasty weather that we had last week, it looks like it’s going to return.
The humidity will start to make a comeback tomorrow and then shift into high gear by Tuesday. That will make some uncomfortable days and uncomfortable nights. It’s been great being able to sleep [...]
A Comfortable Saturday

I’m pulling double-duty today, so excuse me if this post is less intelligible than usual. (Though some would argue they are never over intelligible.) First News Weekend Meteorologist Chuck McWilliams is in the National Guard, so about once a month he’s gone to get training. When he leaves, the weekends are left [...]
Valentine Fire
July 18, 2006
I didn’t get a chance to post yesterday, because I took a plane to Valentine to cover the wildfire that threatened the city. We flew out of the Millard Airport and landed at the Valentine airport about a 1 hour and 45 minutes later. (Not in a million years would I have ever thought I’d [...]
Oppressive! (and Impressive)
July 17, 2006
Well, this heat isn’t much fun at all for a lot of people all across the metro and the entire midsection of the country. It’s not just the heat though, it’s also the humidity. We got some much needed rain on Thursday, but I really think it made the current weather that much worse. It [...]
A Wild Thursday
July 14, 2006
I walked in this morning and Mike Sigmond said, “I heard you got called in off the golf course yesterday.” It was my day off when I came in to cover the severe weather. Unfortunately, I wasn’t at the golf course (I wish)… I was at Hobby Lobby getting my parents’ wedding gift. Hobby Lobby… [...]
Severe Thunderstorm Watch until 10pm
July 13, 2006
As expected, a severe thunderstorm watch has been issued. It’s in effect until 10pm tonight for much of our viewing area. The watch states that hail up to 3 inches in diameter, winds to 80 mph, and frequent cloud-to-ground lightning is possible.
