Toxic Algae
May 30, 2006

Yesterday, I traveled to the Thomas Lakes north of Ashland to report on a lake tainted by a toxic algae bloom. Looking at the lake, you could tell that it wasn’t healthy. It was like someone brought in some green paint and poured it in. The color of the lake was like pea soup.
Anyway, people [...]

Severe Risk Today
May 29, 2006

There’s still a slight possibility for severe weather in Omaha today… but I’m not holding my breath. The cold front is right in the vicinity of Omaha right now, but the time of day is wrong. If it was 2 or 3 hours slower, then we’d have a great chance for seeing some hail (maybe [...]

Severe Weather Tomorrow
May 28, 2006

Well, my future sister-in-law is now married and I’m back at work. It’s an interesting day to be forecasting, with the possibility of some Memorial Day severe weather possible.
We’re always talking about instability, but it’s interesting to note that we’ve got quite a bit of it out there today. That’s thanks to some very hot [...]

It’s Wedding Season
May 26, 2006

I admit, it’s not normal for a guy to realize that it is wedding season… However, a couple of different things are making me think of it now. First of all, on Saturday, my future sister-in-law is getting married. Second, my fiancee is in full wedding force making sure everything it done for [...]

May 23, 2006

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch and a Tornado Watch is in effect until 9:00pm. The watches (as of 4pm) don’t include all of our viewing area, except the western portions. Omaha isn’t included, but Lincoln is included in the Thunderstorm Watch and Norfolk in the Tornado Watch.
The situation does look pretty good for severe weather this [...]

Severe Weather Tomorrow
May 22, 2006

It looks like there is still a decent shot for some severe weather tomorrow… A strong upper level storm system will begin moving out of the Rockies tomorrow morning. I think the big question right now is: What will our sky conditions be tomorrow? Some indications at this point show that there will be a [...]

Severe Weather and Severely Hot Weather
May 21, 2006

Two main forecast concerns for us this week. Severe weather chances come first on Tuesday and Wednesday. Then all eyes turn to the possibility for 90 plus degree weather starting Friday and lasting through Memorial Day weekend.
Let’s look at Tuesday and Wednesday first. First of all, pretty much anytime you have thunderstorm chances at the [...]

More Hot Weather
May 21, 2006

This next week’s forecast is a difficult one, thanks to the possibility for hot temps and the possibility of rain and clouds. I think the forecast I’ve got going works pretty good though.
What about Memorial Day weekend? Right now, all the computer models are going very hot and truthfully it looks very reasonable. The Euro [...]
